Development Officer

The Works International Visual Arts Society is a not-for-profit charitable organization whose mission is to promote the visual arts and design among the public at large and the artistic community by developing, producing and marketing special projects, programs and events that elicit the continued financial support of sponsors in the public and private sectors and the professional support of the artistic community.

Working both in office and remotely, this flexible, full time position will be responsible for developing sponsorship in both Private and Public sectors, as well as individual donations for The Works Art & Design Festival, its programs, and related activities of The Works International Visual Arts Society. The Development officer will work closely with the Executive Artistic Director, the Chief Operating Officer, and the Marketing and Communications Officer to develop a compelling fundraising message and customized strategies to develop investment and giving.

The Development Officer will maintain existing and build new sponsor relationships through effective communication and marketing strategies, converting new sponsors into committed supporters through identification of shared values and goals. Responsibilities include: preparing grant applications and requests for funding, developing and cultivating relationships with artists, business and industry donors and solidifying relationships with civic, provincial and federal government funding representatives. The Development Officer will establish measures of success and evaluate fundraising activities, in addition to developing and maintaining electronic data and records of donors.

 

Qualifications:

· Degree in Business or Not-for-Profit Management; Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) Designation.
  Equivalencies in experience and education will be considered.

· Minimum 3 years’ experience with fund development as a primary responsibility.

· Established track record of increasing philanthropic revenue within the funding community.

· Proactive leadership skills; well-honed negotiation skills.

· Strong presentation, meeting and facilitation skills.

· Experience managing and training staff and/or volunteers.

· Demonstrated research, critical thinking and problem solving skills.

· Well-developed written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

· Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and fundraising database systems

 

Work Environment:

The Works Office is a comfortable working environment in a growing neighbourhood east of Downtown. There are seasonal swells in activity that offer exciting changes throughout the year, including an annual surge of staff to deliver The Works Art & Design Festival. This ongoing position will be an expansion to the year round Society team.  Flexibility is both offered and required to meet the project- based timelines. This is a full time position that will include both in-office and remote work, evenings and weekends as well as seasonal concentrations.

Marketing and Communications Officer
(Part – time)

The Works International Visual Arts Society is a not-for-profit charitable organization whose mission is to promote the visual arts and design among the public at large and the artistic community by developing, producing and marketing special projects, programs and events that elicit the continued financial support of sponsors in the public and private sectors and the professional support of the artistic community.

Working both in the office and remotely, the Marketing and Communications Officer  will develop, implement, and manage an annual marketing plan and communications strategies for The Works Art & Design Festival and related activities of The Works International Visual Arts Society. This results driven, highly organized professional will work closely with The Executive Artistic Director and the Development Officer to align campaigns with fundraising and audience development goals and support existing and new sponsor relationships.

The incumbent in this new, part-time position will develop communication documents for campaigns, source and write compelling stories for traditional and online platforms, prepare content for marketing material to positively impact the image, awareness and brand of The Works Festival and Fundraising Gala. The Marketing and Communications Officer will serve as the liaison to public relations agencies; create and maintain a photo and graphic file library and attend trade shows and other local community events, as required.

 

Qualifications:

· Degree or diploma in Integrated Marketing Communications, Public Relations, or Business Administration.
  Equivalencies in education and experience may be considered.

· 2 – 3 years’ integrated marketing experience, including client and sponsorship relations.

· Working knowledge of marketing fundamentals, e.g. direct marketing, digital and social media;
  communication strategies, through the brand and voice.

· Solid knowledge/experience in developing marketing strategies, conducting research and analysis
  and utilizing social media and internet trends effectively.

· Well-developed research, analytical and problem solving skills.

· Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

· Demonstrated initiative and excellent organizational skills; ability to meet strict deadlines.

· Knowledge of print and web production; desktop publishing, graphic design, and publication scheduling.

· Strong computer competency, proficient in MS programs and internet applications.

 

Work Environment: The Works Office is a comfortable working environment in a heritage property east of Downtown. There are seasonal swells in activity that offer exciting changes throughout the year, including an annual surge of staff to deliver The Works Art & Design Festival. This ongoing position will be an expansion to the year round Society team.  Flexibility is both offered and required to meet the project- based timelines. This is a part time position that will include both in-office and remote work of approximately 24 hours per week, with some evenings and weekends and seasonal concentrations.

Operations Manager

The Works International Visual Arts Society is a not-for-profit charitable organization whose mission is to promote the visual arts and design among the public at large and the artistic community by developing, producing and marketing special projects, programs and events that elicit the continued financial support of sponsors in the public and private sectors and the professional support of the artistic community.

Working in a collaborative, dynamic workplace the Operations Manager will support the Executive Artistic Director and Chief Operating Officer by applying their administrative knowledge and skills to support festival operations, financial and Human Resources services along with running the day-to-day operations of the Works Society. 

This is a new administration position that will oversee office administration, information technology, security and facility management and the orientation of staff, interns and volunteers. The incumbent in this position will administer fund/grant reporting, prepare work schedules and draft contracts as defined by projects and programming. The Operations Manager will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders and contribute to the over-all effectiveness of strategies, policies and practices to ensure operational excellence.

 

Qualifications:

· Diploma in Business Administration or Not-for-Profit Management; coursework in management, accounting,
  human resources, project management, and organizational behaviour. Equivalencies in education and
  experience may be considered.

· Minimum of 2 years’ experience in administration, project management and overseeing over-all
  operations preferably within a non-profit organization.

· Knowledge/experience in resource management, facility and risk management.

· Solid knowledge of financial processes, procedures and general accounting practices.

· Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills.

· Demonstrated initiative, excellent organizational skills, logical thinker.

· Proven track record in effectively managing conflicting priorities, collaborating with others and
  exercising sound judgment within a team environment.

· Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

· Proficient with all Microsoft Office software applications.

· Strong working knowledge of records and database management, office equipment, etc.
