Employment Opportunity: Operations Manager

Working in a collaborative, dynamic workplace the Operations Manager will support the Executive Artistic Director and Chief Operating Officer by applying their administrative knowledge and skills to support festival operations, financial and Human Resources along with running the day-to-day operations of the Works Society.

This full time position is responsible for office administration, information technology, security and facility management and the orientation of staff, interns and volunteers. The successful candidate will administer fund/grant reporting, prepare work schedules and draft contracts as defined by projects and programming. The Operations Manager will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders and contribute to the over-all effectiveness of strategies, policies and practices to ensure operational excellence.


  • Diploma in Business Administration or Not-for-Profit Management; coursework in management, accounting, human resources, project management, and organizational behavior. Equivalencies in education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in administration, project management and overseeing over-all operations preferably within a non-profit organization.
  • Knowledge/experience in resource management, facility and risk management.
  • Solid knowledge of financial processes, procedures and general accounting practices.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative, excellent organizational skills, logical thinker.
  • Proven track record in effectively managing conflicting priorities, collaborating with others and exercising sound judgment within a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient with all Microsoft Office software applications.
  • Strong working knowledge of records and database management, office equipment, etc.
  • Experience with grant applications is an asset.

Work Environment:

The Works Office is in a heritage property east of Downtown. All staff work cross functionally in order to meet project-based priorities, including, annually, The Works Art & Design Festival. Regular business hour availability is required for this position, as well as some evening and weekend work to effectively organize and to adapt to seasonal and project-based concentrations.
