The work in this exhibition was created by Julia Reimer and Tyler Rock of Firebrand Glass Studios from Black Diamond, Alberta. The pieces featured in this exhibition showcase the diverse range of work of these award winning artists pieces whose pieces are collected internationally. Their inspiration comes from the western landscape, the crisp prairie light, gentle hills and windswept grasslands. Their original design and meticulous craftsmanship have been recognized through several awards and scholarships, such as the Canada Council for the Arts and the RBC National Glass Award.
Julia's pieces contain an aesthetic inspired by crisp prairie light and windswept grasslands reflecting this environments simplicity of light and form. Her original design and meticulous craftsmanship have been recognized through scholarships and awards from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, The Corning Museum of Glass and the Canada Council for the Arts. As well, her work is featured in the publication 500 Glass Objects and she is the inaugural recipient of the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery’s National Award for Excellence.
Tyler is one of Canada’s premier glass artists. His work has received recognition from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, the Alberta College of Art and Design and the Canada Council for the Arts. He has also been selected as “Artist in Residence” at the Studio at the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York. Tyler is also an instructor in the glass program at the Alberta College of Art and Design as well as at the Corning Museum of Glass. He has exhibited work extensively in galleries both in Canada and the United States. Rock’s work can be found in many private, corporate and public collections in Canada including the private collection of the Premier of Alberta, the offices of the Prime Minister in Ottawa and the Department of Foreign Affairs.
