About Works to Work - Since 2001, The Works to Work program offers a unique employment opportunity that combines visual art theory with hands-on work experience in the fast paced setting of The Works Art & Design Festival. The program is fast paced and begins in May and runs throughout the summer. There are 46 hours of in-class/home-study instruction and over 500 hours of practical work experience. Several learning strategies are used throughout the program including hands-on demonstrations, guest lectures and research. To encourage ongoing skill development, all participants can return for multiple summers to progress from Assistant to Coordinator to Supervisor levels.
This paid certification program includes the Exhibit and Technology and Curatorial streams, in which you can become certified (subject to successful completion). The Exhibit and Technology stream provides the learner experience in preparation, art handling, planning, install/dismantle, lighting, sound, construction techniques, inventory, resource management, etc. The Curation stream provides the learner experience in curatorial research, registration, reporting, documentation, archiving, communications, curatorial intent, install/dismantle, audience development, and information dissemination.
