| Project Description: The City of Edmonton, Emergency Response Department commissioned a giant mural to depict 100 years of the City of Edmonton’s Emergency Response Department’s history, recognizing 100 years of tradition, progress and excellence in services. The mural was produced by Art & Design in Public Places and by using new technologies, was digitally reproduced from the original painting into fifty 4-foot-square digital prints mounted on modular panels creating a 20 ft high by 40 ft wide mural. The Places also produced a specially commissioned series of artist signed prints for this project.
Artist Statement:“What a wonderful challenge . . . bring the history of black and white to colour, the ups and downs of life, has been an ongoing pursuit of my work, whether for a mural, portrait painting, or my own history period. The quick response of the men and women of service have meant a great deal to my family. Therefore I have a vested interest to make this painting say something to everyone, young, old, sick, or well . . . a celebration of all that is good about our fire and emergency response departments.” (Maggie Ray Morris, February 23, 2004) “I believe I have done the painting justice and I am very proud to be associated with this project.” (Maggie Ray Morris, September 14, 2004)
