Project Description: Emerging and established artists and designers from Edmonton’s multicultural, new immigrant, and Aboriginal communities were invited to submit images that represent Edmonton’s diverse cultural make-up to be displayed year-round on large metal sculptural banners in Sir Winston

Churchill Square.  The goal of the Banners Project is to provide a sense of connection between all the cultures that make Edmonton what it is today and to celebrate it in downtown Edmonton’s premiere outdoor venue, Sir Winston Churchill Square, where friends, families and co-workers come together with visitors to the city.

Artwork Description: A total of 24 sculptural banners images were produced, selected from 13 artists/designers, representing 12 countries.  These images have been applied to large stainless steel banners and are suspended from 8 tall poles lining the east and west sides of Sir Winston Churchill Square. Artists/designers from Edmonton’s multicultural, new immigrant, and Aboriginal communities provided images of their contemporary and traditional artworks, including fine art prints, paintings, drawings, and sculptures.
