Carolyn Mark

Raised by St Bernards in the majestic Shuswap-Okanagan Valley, Miss Mark- aka The Boozy Chanteuse aka The Queen of Vancouver Island- was forced to learn the piano at an early age. Most venues these days don't have pianos, so she took up the guitar and headed for Edmonton the first chance she could. Her band The Vinaigrettes once sold 14 tapes at The Ratt! Carolyn allegedly lives on Vancouver Island but spends most of her time on tour working on the act. She will be joined by Edmonton shredder Justin Perkins.

F&M

Fearless and meticulous. Fragile and melancholy. Forthright and mighty. F&M (Edmonton's Ryan and Rebecca Anderson) is a baroque-pop outfit with a penchant for dark lyrics and mesmerizing melodies. For more than 10 years, the couple have been indispensable stalwarts — releasing six of their own albums and touring through Canada and Europe. F&M’s forlorn cover of “Maybe Tomorrow” from TV’s The Littlest Hobo was featured in the modern hockey classic, GOON. All of the band's full length albums have appeared on the Earshot charts — including 2010’s "Sincerely, F&M," which was N0.1 on the national folk charts for six weeks. Their 2014 album "At Sunset We Sing," was shortlisted for the Edmonton Music Prize and earned a Best Alternative Album nomination at the 2015 Edmonton Music Awards. Their latest release, "Lessons From Losers" is currently nominated for a 2019 Edmonton Music Award.

“F&M’s Lessons From Losers is a shot in the dark – a bold Hail Mary awakening full of heavy hues and bittersweet, emotive melodies. Thought-provoking and life-enhancing.” – Atwood Magazine, New York

Cristian De La Luna’s musical universe is like a massive open house. His music is heat and light. His lyrics are invitations to the party and friendly banter. His rhythms come from the heart, from a pointed joie de vivre and his voice rings with an urgency to live in the present moment. Cristian De La Luna was born in Colombia. He grew up in the noisy bustle of Cumbia, Porro and San Juanero sounds. He played in a traditional Colombian music ensemble called a Papayera, which lit up his passion for music. Upon arriving inquebec as a teenager, he began composing songs inspired by both nostalgia following his difficult exile from Colombia and the excitement of becoming a “new wave” Canadian.

The Writer’s Guild

Dan Davis, Saxophones

Brett Hansen, Guitar

Tyson Kerr, Piano and Rhodes

Josh McHan, Bass

Jamie Cooper, Drums

The Writers’ Guild is a jazz composers' collective featuring five of Edmonton's finest creative minds. The band uses the canvas of a traditional jazz quintet, blending musical influences old and new as they continually hone their craft into exciting, vital new music. Each composer in the collective has a unique writing style: Dan Davis’ compositions show a blend of traditional and modern jazz sounds, with catchy melodies over a backdrop of chords which would be right at home in Chris Potter’s latest release. Tyson Kerr’s music, influenced by prominent voices in the Toronto music scene such as Andrew Downing and David Braid, feel at times like vignettes from film and musical scores. Brett Hansen's style soars across genres and moods, finding just the right moment for a Bill Frisell musing or a full-on grunge rock explosion. Jamie Cooper's writing celebrates the contributions of greats like Roy Hargrove and J Dilla, bringing neo soul and hip hop to jazz. Rounding out the band is one of the strongest rhythm players in Canada: Josh McHan is the rock-solid foundation holding up all these diverse voices and styles. The Writers' Guild's debut album “Based on a True Story” (Chronograph Records) reached #1 on the Earshot! National Jazz charts , and was nominated for a Western Canadian Music Award; they are currently developing compositions for their second studio album. As these composers comment, collaborate, and create each other's music in realtime, the Writers' Guild makes ink on paper fly.
