"Look"

Richard Purdy
“East/West”, Centennial Library & “Performance Workshop/ Presentation”, Churchill Square

Montreal artist, Richard Purdy, brought an interdisciplinary approach to The Works Festival with his performances and exhibit. Drawing from music, dance, history and religion, Purdy merged his varied personal interests to create an imaginary mythos. His exhibit included fictitious objects from imaginative cultures, myths and creatures. His performances also created alternate realities through his play on reason and the senses.

The Wearable Works Exhibition was presented at the Edmonton Art Gallery (EAG). The theme -Wearable Works- examined the relationship between the body and adornment. National in scope, three curators from across Canada were asked to select art that took the body as its starting point, but could still be worn. In conjunction with the exhibit at the EAG, four performance artists from Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver also presented their interpretations of the relationship between the body and clothing. From Edmonton, the Mile Zero Dance Company also conducted eighteen more performances based on the body at the EAG during the Festival.
