ABOUT THE ARTIST
Originally from France, Bernadette grew up with a mother who was a painter with an interest in art history, and a brother who was a painter and illustrator. She began her journey in Canada in Montreal, where she came for a postdoctoral fellowship. Work took her to Ontario, then to California, and finally to Edmonton, where she moved in May 2012. She is a professor in occupational health at the University of Alberta.
She began taking drawing and painting classes while still in Ontario and continued them after arriving in Edmonton. Curious by nature, she wanted to learn various techniques such as charcoal, sanguine, pastel, ink, watercolor, and oil and acrylic painting. It was in Edmonton, with Suzanne Lamoureux, that Bernadette began working with colored pencils. She currently focuses mainly on drawing: charcoal, sanguine, ink, and colored pencil.
