ARTIST STATEMENT

Photography involves the relationship between light and time–the bridging of a variable gap, connecting light and time to take a photo. This is true in daylight and also at night, when artificial light comes into play. In the daylight I am endlessly intrigued by the interplay of sunlight, natural landscape elements, and human-made constructs. It is amazing to capture golden light shining on the Walterdale Bridge and reflecting off of nearby buildings amidst colourful storm cloud formations just prior to sunset. It is an entirely different, yet equally engaging, experience to capture a bubblegum-pink, fireball sun appearing to rest on top of the Walterdale Bridge against a backdrop of a smoky, grey sky. At night, bridges in Edmonton are my photographic playground for creating unique images that allow light to appear both stationary and in motion. The lighting effects contribute to the composition and narrative of each image.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

“Seeing things in a different way” – is as much a life philosophy as it is my spiritual, technical, and fun, creative approach. I appreciate the freedom to explore ideas, experiment with different camera and digital art techniques, and play with composition. My sense of humour, wordplay, and storytelling frequently appear in my work. Through photography, I love being able to share what I see and create!
