Yes! We encourage previous interns interested in participating in the program again to apply. Many interns return for multiple years and are sometimes recommended for progression into coordinator or supervisor roles. Returning interns must still apply through our application form, provide their most up-to-date résumé and cover letter, and, if selected, be available for an interview. We take into account any professional development and growth since your previous internship; however, re-hiring is not guaranteed due to factors that change year to year.
Selection & Hiring
-
In a typical year, we hire a minimum of nine assistant interns: five in the production stream, one in the curatorial stream, one in the volunteer administration stream, and two to work with the marketing and communications team. This number may change depending on funding and festival needs.
-
Applicants selected for an interview will be notified in mid to late March, after the application period closes. The Works receives over 200 applications annually, all of which are carefully reviewed by staff. Hiring decisions are also dependent on grant funding, which is typically confirmed in April. Only applicants selected for an interview will be contacted. All applicants will be notified once recruitment is complete.
After Applying
-
If you are not selected, volunteering with The Works is a great way to gain behind-the-scenes festival experience and strengthen your résumé. We also encourage applicants to apply again in future years. You can also sign up for our newsletter to receive updates on opportunities at The Works.
