ABOUT THE EXHIBIT
Choosing a title for an exhibition is not always easy, even when the theme is clearly defined; emotion, the memory of an emotion! "From the Heart to the Canvas" abstractly illustrates poems that are largely inspired by the many encounters and interviews which I conducted during my career at Radio-Canada. How can these eight paintings be brought together under one "umbrella"? The spark was provided by... emotion. And since emotion speaks to the heart: "From the Heart to the Canvas."
What lies behind each painting and its title? It’s up to you to imagine and discover.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Danièle Petit is a self-taught painter. Born in France, she has lived in Western Canada for many years. A media background means that current events, social issues, and societal challenges are often at the heart of her paintings. After attending various workshops and classes, Danièle’s development as a visual artist now revolves around exploration and experimentation, both in the painting process itself and in the multiple avenues offered by contemporary art. While acrylic remains her primary medium, Danièle also enjoys exploring the use of diverse materials, such as collages, mixed media, and various objects. However, this time, it is the memory of interviews and encounters from her 27-year long career at Radio-Canada that has inspired her work.
For Danièle, a painting or creation should engage the viewer in one way or another: make them question, entice them, suggest an atmosphere or energy—essentially, speak to them. It is about sharing. Exchanging a glance, a few words, like the encounter with a stranger.
