ABOUT THE EXHIBIT

Water is everywhere: rivers, lakes, oceans, ground, air, plants, our body and breath. The sense of connections–to ourselves and with our surroundings—is what I wish to promote.

I believe that the sense of connections plays an important part in our health, healing, and kindness. There are unique forms, lines, shapes, and colours related to water shown in these works that invite curiosity, imagination, and promote friendly conversations with other people. These images of water can also invite a sense of calmness. There are so many similarities I see between the water and us (humans). I cannot help but feel connected when feeling and seeing water.

Through photographic works, I invite people to sense such similarities. Some of these similarities are mentioned below:

Both water and humans are affected by external factors such as changes in temperature, pressure, pollutants, and environmental conditions. Each wave of water is so unique in its colours, shapes, movements, and textures, yet each one is interrelated with the others. We, as humans, are unique individuals, yet we are interrelated with each other. We are mostly made of water. Humans, animals, and plants are also connected through exchanges from the same air, and water is in the air and in our breath. We can use this knowledge to recognize that we are all connected--to each other and to water. Water-sense of connections is a photography series that celebrates the beauty and significance of water and sense of connections. With such awareness of connections, we can choose to be kind to ourselves and others.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

I was born and raised in the countryside of Japan, surrounded by rice fields. Growing up, I was taught the importance of harmony. In high school, I went to study in Norway, then I came to Canada to study and further to explore what I can do in this world. In Edmonton I completed my university degree and began to work in the health and wellness field with people of various ages and abilities.

I am a self-taught photographer who has exhibited my work internationally. I focus on using photography to promote connections and harmony. My photographs have been exhibited in North America and beyond. For me, photography is an experience. Interacting with people and all beings around me has been a fruitful experience which influences my creativity. I appreciate everyone for being a part of this journey.
