Catch up with our W2W Interns
We Are Here - Hard at Work!
Our Works to Works (W2W) interns worked hard this summer putting together The Works Art & Design Festival!
Having a small team has been a really fun experience. We’ve become close friends over the course of the internship and have gotten to know each other quite well.
It’s been less than two months since we started, and it’s been all hands on deck. We’ve learned that making a festival is HARD WORK and that there are so many things to consider from networking with the local people and community to building the exhibits, and organizing meetings with the artists.
In total there are 13 of us, supporting curatorial, production, volunteer, and marketing/comms work.
Here are some photo highlights of what we’ve been up to😊
Say Cheese! A quick snap after our group art session. Our Works to Work Sessions include various activities that encourage personal, career, and artistic growth throughout the internship.
If you look closely in the middle, you can see the cat that one of the teams made for the Upper Gallery.
Breaking for lunch after scouting the Churchill Square site to plan exhibit and art activation spaces!
Field trip! We like to travel together to get snacks! Lol.
Olivia and Calvin hard at work setting up the Art Gallery of Alberta’s Community Gallery. This exhibition is called Here I Am by Paddy Lamb—The AGA is one of the partner galleries for this year's festival!
Before the festival starts, the production team practices putting together the installations to make sure we stay on schedule. They can now assemble the iconic Festival Gateway in record time!
Erin, our Curatorial Assistant, picking up some artwork!
Break time! Bananagrams is THE GAME of The Works. We take it quite seriously around here.
Our inters will be facilitating the WorksShops during festival, so of course we all wanted to try making our own first!
All the departments came together to help production take everything down after the festival. Here’s a photo of us unloading, and putting stuff back in our storage for next year!
We did a debrief after festival, where we all wrote/drew some of our most memorable experiences from the festival.
