Kseniia Koshmai

Kseniia Koshmai is a visual artist with Ukrainian roots, now based in Calgary. She holds a classical fine art education and also trained as a miniature painter, combining the precision of traditional techniques with a personal, expressive approach. Her creative journey has been deeply shaped by the experience of war in Ukraine, where she lived during its first terrifying year. Creating during that time became both a means of survival and a way to process fear, uncertainty, and grief. That chapter of her life gave her a new sense of purpose as an artist—to speak through images when words are not enough. After leaving Ukraine, Kseniia exhibited in a group show in Tbilisi, Georgia in support of Ukraine, and continues to engage with projects that reflect her values and voice.

Since moving to Canada, Kseniia has been rebuilding her artistic path in a new cultural and professional environment. She is currently developing work that explores themes of memory, migration, identity, and emotional resilience. She works primarily with mixed media including acrylic, tempera, watercolor, gouache, and ink. Her miniature paintings often appear on wooden boxes, paper, and canvas, and she enjoys exploring unexpected materials and textures. Having recently arrived in Canada, Kseniia is

beginning to explore local opportunities to grow professionally and connect with Calgary’s creative community. She’s deeply excited to take part in the NAPP program to gain guidance, experience, and new connections that will help her contribute as an artist in her new home.
