Carter Felker Band
Carter Felker’s songwriting is the embodiment of simplicity. Like the hammer and the nail, the tongue and groove or the wheel and its roll - the stringent and punchy use of words alongside outstanding fingerpicking are as effective as they are memorable. Stories of hometown lore, love lost and bitter relationships steeped with a deep sense of humor are Felker’s modus operandi. The ability to tell a story we all know, inside parameters we forget exist.
Working off of the success of his 2016 debut album Everyday Life, Felker put himself on the map in Western Canada. Sharing stages with Sam Outlaw, Valdy and Del Barber as well as playing regional festivals (Calgary Folk Festival, Blockheater, Tongue On The Post). Felker’s songwriting has been picked up on by other roots artists during the six years since he first arrived on the scene. Del Barber added Felker’s original tune “Everyday Life” to his Juno nominated 2019 album “Easy Keeper” and Alberta based country artist Shaela Miller sings “Good Woman” on her latest LP “Big Hair Small City” (2021).
His 2022 offering “Even The Happy Ones Are Sad” once again showcased Felker’s prowess as a songwriter and picker. Keeping his eye on the struggle of the human condition, Felker uses his keen eye and quick wit to tell deeply personal truths and twist tails of tragic comedy throughout the 10 song charm bracelet.
On his new record “Loser” (coming in March, 2025 via Department Store Records), Felker further sets himself apart from the pack with a wit and wisdom beyond his years allowing his songs to connect with all walks of life. Felker leaned on personal experience for the songwriting. “It’s a lot about being the taker in a relationship, the one who isn’t the gold standard of a partner, self-doubt, battles with ego, really. And anybody else who’s kind of hard-luck and not doing well, the world’s loser, I guess.” “Loser” showcases an updated electric sound for Felker providing a change to reflect the modern tastes in instrumentation for a songwriter who continues to push himself both artistically and musically.
