Agatha Chacinski

A Grasp for Love

About the Artist

Agatha Lidia Chacinski, a first-generation citizen of Canada, was born 1986 in Beaver Hills House (Edmonton), on Treaty Six Territory. Despite Agatha’s love of the arts starting at age four, her career led her into psychology. Realizing she missed a vital component of practicing art in her life, she returned to her passion in 2017, pursuing a career as a self-taught artist.

Agatha is a mixed media artist, working in watercolour, acrylic, gouache, ink, coloured pencil, linoleum printmaking, and digital illustration. She has shown work with Capital City Art at the Stanley A. Milner inaugural exhibit titled Imagine and has had several works purchased by private collectors internationally. In 2021 she participated in a mural competition hosted by The Paint Spot, Procura Real Estate and Le Louvre Residence. The resulting mural is on permanent display at 11025 26 Ave NW Edmonton.

Artist statement

A Grasp for Love was conceptualized during the heart of the pandemic, inspired by the trend of becoming a plant parent during isolation. It speaks to the stark contrast of people's deep yearning to be surrounded by nature, while living in a world that has erased so much of it to accommodate our concrete jungles.

With the further depletion of resources, and our recklessly devastating impact on global warming, my hope is to inspire others to consider what nature means to them, and their impact on it. It can start as simple as being a “plant parent” and appreciating the care that is needed to nurture a living thing, and in return reveling in the serenity and beauty that it beholds. It can also start by appreciating the shade that a tree brings during the sweltering heat of summer, or even being inspired by a small bloom that grows from a crack in a parking lot.

Nature can bring us so much joy and healing if we simply let it in and accommodate it. If given the care it needs, nature can sustain us for years to come.

So, the question I pose to you, how long will nature need to grasp for your love?
