Rejuvenatiiion Temple

About the Artist

Sowl is a Filipino-Canadian multidisciplinary artist born and raised in Toronto and the GTA. His practice revolves around traditional paintings on canvas, tattoo work, graphic design, sculpture, and murals. Sowl currently blends his Asian heritage into his practice, exploring connections with himself and his roots as a diaspora of the Philippines in Canada. Sowl has paintings and murals in private collectors’ homes internationally, including across the USA, Philippines, Thailand, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Peru, China and in Alberta, Montreal, and Toronto. Driven by his motivation to overcome his traumas and poverty that he grew up with, Sowl is inspired to spread light and love through his artwork and daily living. His murals, paintings, and sculptures embody life force, depicting uplifting imagery that aims to strengthen spaces and communities by awakening ways in which people can feel freedom in themselves and connect to their roots instinctively.

Artist statement

Rejuvenatiiion Temple is a visual ode of rejuvenation to everybody's suffering. Despite knowing that life will continue to reel in with punches, we have to roll with it. We get punched, get down, yet get back up and keep walking. I salute everyone who is trying to figure out life while shouldering pain, suffering and the weight of the entire world. We must cultivate and nurture a best friend, peaceful thoughts and self-love if we truly want to heal and persevere. It all starts at the roots. Change takes longer than a single day because, in this society, we are disconnected from our truths. I’m here to rewire the matrix that has been set in our default settings. I advocate for softness, nurturing love, compassion, and affection when doing shadow work – when diving into the crevices of your own nemesis to heal. If we approach this process of going into the shadow part of ourselves with hostility and fear, it will not work. As we gain more knowledge, we become more able to navigate through this life. Let us practice being good to ourselves one day at a time. This is the rejuvenation temple. Peace and love.
