The Works is a place to connect, learn, and build community with like-minded people. I have never felt so supported in a workplace as I do here, and not only have I grown as an artist and creative, but I have also grown as a professional. I am better able to exist in out interconnected world as a respectful, considerate, and confident individual.

The internship was a challenging experience, yet it was even more rewarding. Not only did I learn the different facets of careers in art by observing and practicing administration, curation, organization, communication, and team work, but I also learned the immense power of community. Working with The Works Art & Design Festival introduced me to a variety of figures within the art world, whether they were colleagues, participating artists, or patrons, which helped me build meaningful and hopefully long lasting relationships that taught me about myself, art, and my place in art.

After being a part of The Works for three previous festivals as both a Production Assistant and an exhibiting artist, returning to The Works as Production Coordinator allowed me the opportunity to refresh and further develop my technical and creative skills within a new context. I was able to return to the work that I enjoy with a new team and a new festival, while also having additional responsibilities and challenges to grow in leadership. As a whole, The Works has been one of the most unique, valuable, educational, and welcoming opportunities that allows moments of growth and learning.

My time at The Works has exceeded my expectations. In my mind as an intern, I felt like I wouldn't have much of a sense of "importance," but I have had the opportunity to be led by experienced colleagues, and have also been challenged to lead. I developed so many skills in a short amount of time, and things feel much more possible.

The W2W Internship Program gave me the opportunity to bond with other interns who are recently emerging in the sector while being guided by mentors who are eagerly willing to provide us with whatever help and education that they can. Experiencing the hard work and intensity that comes with being a part of a festival together has increased our resiliency, as well as our appreciation of the work and team effort that goes into producing these types of events for our community. I'm proud to have gone through the program and to be a part of The Works' legacy. These memories and many connections that I've made through this internship are something that I know I will carry forward with me far into my future career in the arts and culture sector. Thank you to everyone involved in the continuation of this program.

I took the internship as a BFA student looking to gain insight into possibilities for my future profession and practices. During the festival, I met some extremely influential artists that changed the way I view my own art and gave me inspiration. I believe that the skills that I gained during the classroom portion are nothing less than essential to understanding life in the art world, from writing resumes to understanding plagiarism. I believe the most valuable thing I gained from the internship, however, was confidence. Before the summer, I knew I wanted to live my life as an artist but wasn’t sure how or what to make of it, which scared me. Now I have learned about so many of the options open to me.

I have found the Works to Work Internship Program to be valuable for the development of my professional life as an artist and arts administrator. The work is intense, but is extremely fulfilling as I get to see thousands of people, who don't normally step into a gallery, interact with art.
